I’ve been doing it all wrong.

Well, perhaps not all wrong, but I’ve learned that I have been training purely through brute force, which is a direct path to injury. My running form is not bad. At least not at the start of a run, but because my core is weak due to severe diastasis recti my hips are weak and things tend to fall apart pretty quickly when I’m running.

I’ve been powering through discomfort and even pain but running shouldn’t hurt. Not when you are doing it properly. Yes, yes there will always be those out there with the antiquated, outdated, and routinely disproven idea that running is “bad for your knees” but I live in the 21st century and I know better.

It is for this reason, in spite of all of my own health and fitness certifications, that I’m considering hiring a running coach. I think it would be brilliant to work with someone who specializes in the sport. I could learn a great deal in a much shorter time than going down my current path of reading books and practicing the theory without guidance.

I’d like to be able to run injury free for many, many years to come. Having a coach teach me proper training techniques would go a long way to that end.
