I guess if I’m going to commit, I need to commit.
Today I purchased a membership at a local recreational center. This membership is in addition to my existing membership at Esporta Fitness.
I’ve been a member at Esporta from the time it was LA Fitness, and I had that membership for at least a decade. The facilities are fantastic, and my membership includes access to any and all Esporta Fitness facilities in the continental US. So why would I purchase an additional membership at a different center?
Access to specialized equipment
The new rec center has a beautifully maintained indoor running/walking track. For a great number of reasons, I’m going to need that track as my running progresses. Those reasons range from effective training beyond a treadmill to my severe heat-related illness.
This facility also has an indoor rock climbing wall and a few other amenities not available at my local Esporta.
Variety of workout options
Access to different facilities helps to ensure that whatever my workout needs may be at any given time, those needs can be met. If I’m going to commit to a journey to forge mental toughness, I cannot very well give myself the excuse that “my gym doesn’t offer that.” Yes, Matt, one of your facilities does. Go do the difficult thing.
Convenience and location
Both of my gyms are within 3.5 miles of my home. Close enough to run to and from either of them. Absolutely no excuses.
Joining multiple gyms is a strategy designed to help me reach my goals, fitness and otherwise. By having access to different equipment, workout options, and trainers I can tailor my routine to fit my very specific needs.
